Driving

  • Driving is still permitted in the UK if symptom control is satisfactory but the DVLA need to be informed of your condition
  • The DVLA will supply you with a temporary licence which will be initially reviewed every year
  • As long as your GP is confident that the symptoms are being treated effectively, the DVLA will continue to supply you with a temporary licence
  • After 7 years of satisfactory control, a long term licence is available
  • When driving, especially long distances, plan naps before you get tired to avoid accidents. A stimulant drink or a strong coffee taken before a planned nap can be an effective strategy
  • Never drive if you are feeling too tired and could be at risk of falling asleep at the wheel. Remember, it is your responsibility to recognise significant sleepiness and to take action if necessary
